The 3-Second Aim Check Golfers Skip
Pillar #1 – Golf’s Holy Grail
The Hard Truth
Most golfers who shoot 85–105 are aimed wrong and don’t know it. Becuase they are neglecting the most important part of the golf club, the leading edge.
Then they ‘fix it’ mid-set up or mid-swing by twisting their hands. Or moving their feet. Where are you moving your hands to? Where are you moving your feet to? What you’re not realizing is making these set up positional changes mid routine is only making your slices and pulls worse!
Bottom line, if you aim sloppy, your swing must be a magician. Spoiler: your swing is not a magician! And all you’re doing by adjusting without reference to a specific target is making your swing that much more sloppy too!
Oh, by the way, you want to be more consistent? Believe it or not, you are! You’re consistent with aiming incorrectly! Use the leading edge of the golf club to properly aim. And alignment sticks to help you understand how to aim the leading edge of the golf club first. It’s how you aim in golf!

Do This Now!
- Use the leading edge of the golf club to aim! Not the face! Not the top of the club! The leading edge square or perpendicular to your target is always FIRST!
- Only then can you set your feet in a position to correctly aim your body parallel to your target line. Notice nothing said about your hands yet?
- When you get your feet established to the leading edge of the club, allow the rest of your body where it hinges, your knees, hips, and shoulders, to ‘stack’ on top of each other. Again, parallel to your target line.
- Now you can place your hands on the club.
- Before you swing, re-check: is the leading edge still square to my target line? Here’s where the 3-seconds comes in. If you’re not checking, shame on you!
- If the leading edge is not square, restart! Reset! Don’t adjust. Adjusting to the mistake will compound your mistake, not correct it. Why give yourself permission to fail?
Quick Drill
- Use an alignment sticks, one representing your target line and the other parallel to the other stick, to double check if your leading edge is square to your target line. With the golf ball between the sticks.
- Don’t have alignment sticks or think you don’t need them? Think again! Whether you believe it or not, you need alignment sticks! The pros use them. Are you better than them?
