Exposing Your Real Accuracy
IGI Pillar 1 – What is Your Target and Are You Aimed to Hit It?
The Hard Truth
You think you’re ‘pretty accurate’ because one shot looked good. Hate to tell you but you’re delusional. How many times are you that accurate on the golf course? If you shoot between 85 and 100, you may hit 2 greens in a round. Do you call that accurate? At Instant Golf Improvement, we call that, “you missed!”
Why did you miss? Chances are you’re aimed at somewhere other than you think you are. And you’ve chosen a vague target to aim at. Exacerbating your inability to aim properly.
The 5-Ball Bullseye Drill forces you to face the truth. Can you repeatedly aim to a target, under mild pressure, and actually come within a reasonable proximity to the precise target you chose? The 5-Ball Bullseye Drill is a one of the great range practice drills that will improve your accuracy fast.
Do This Now
- Pick one club and one very precise target that the club you chose can fly or ‘carry’ to.
- Define a ‘bullseye’ circle. A reason able and realistic circle around a precise target that represents you hitting an accurate shot. Hint, start with a generous circle around your chosen target and make the circle smaller as you get better at this drill.
- Hit 5 balls to the target, using your full pre-shot routine for each shot.
- Where does your shot land in relation to your precise target? Did it land within the circle you chose? If so, score it! Score it has a good shot.
- Repeat the process with the remaining balls. How many out of five shots landed within the circle you chose?

Quick Drill
- Make the 5-Ball Bullseye Drill harder by shrinking the bullseye by 10%. This forces you to become more accurate in your aiming process. You become more driven to be precise as you go through your routine. And potentially more accurate under pressure.
- Don’t shrink your circle until you can get 4 out of 5 in the circle.
