The ‘Big Chip Shot’ from 100–150 Yards

When Your Full Swing Is a Mess

Pillar #4 – Tipping your Hat to Chipping

The Hard Truth

When your swing is off, forcing full swing shots is how you make double bogeys multiply.

Using a ‘big chip shot’ will keep your golf ball in play and will save your round. This shot should become a staple of your golf skills, allowing you to control trajectory and distance. It will also provide you with a ‘rescue’ should your golf round go south.

The “Big Chip Shot’ produces a much lower and controllable trajectory while delivering enough ball speed when using an extra club or two to control distance.

Do This Now

• Take more club than normal.
• Shorten the backswing.
• Finish balanced with a low, controlled flight.

Quick Drill

• Goal: boring contact, boring direction, boring scores. Boring beats blow-ups.

An appreciated back swing with a full body follow through allowing the arms to extend through impact to approximately a 3 o’clock position finish is what it takes to master the Big Chip Shot
