You’re Not That Talented!
IGI Pillar 1 – What is Your Target and Are You Aimed to Hit It?
The Hard Truth
Tough love: you can’t consciously control 12 swing thoughts or pieces of your swing in just 1.3 seconds. You’re not wired for that. And you don’t practice enough to make it happen if you were wired to do so.
Too many mechanical swing thoughts standing over the ball cause tension, unnecessary steering of the golf club, and ugly golf shots.
Do This Now
- Leave your mechanical swing thoughts at the range. Where you need to be thinking of those things.
- On the course you should have ONE thought: target.
- If you need a cue, use a cue that establishes tempo: ‘smooth.’ Then swing.
- When you feel the tension caused by too many mechanical thoughts, step away! Reset. Don’t force it.

Quick Drill
Range drill: hit 10 balls with ONLY ONE Swing Thought – Target and Tempo. Then video record just ONE swing so you can check mechanics later.
